It was just a couple months ago that Robert De Niro single-handedly decided to add a small movie to his TriBeCa film festival. The movie, of course, was Andrew Wakefield’s documentary, Vaxxed: From Cover Up To Catastrophe. De Niro had no idea of the pushback that was coming from both the Big Pharma ties to TriBeCa and other movie producers pro-vax mantra that millions will die if people are informed about vaccine safety. The criticism became so intense that De Niro had to issue his own impassioned plea to have the movie screened:
“Grace and I have a child with autism and we believe it is critical that all of the issues surrounding the causes of autism be openly discussed and examined. In the 15 years since the Tribeca Film Festival was founded, I have never asked for a film to be screened or gotten involved in the programming. However this is very personal to me and my family and I want there to be a discussion, which is why we will be screening VAXXED. I am not personally endorsing the film, nor am I anti-vaccination; I am only providing the opportunity for a conversation around the issue.”
Sadly, this plea was not enough to silence the critics and the decision was made to pull Vaxxed and the Streisand Effect took over creating a tidal wave of press and an even bigger fire was lit under concerned parents about vaccine safety. Then De Niro seemingly was silenced and bullied away into a corner, like anyone else who dared to speak out about vaccines. Or so we thought.
Luckily for those concerned with vaccine safety, De Niro is still very relevant in the film industry. This is a man that when he speaks, Hollywood bigwigs listen. Clearly his message regarding Autism has hit many people and now this has hit with one of the biggest producers in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein himself has followed in De Niro’s shoes, remarrying late in life and his last child, a boy, was born when the producer himself had reached the age of 61. Late fatherhood can cause many to be concerned over the vaccine safety of that child and it is unknown if Weinstein became concerned over vaccine damage to his own child being born.
So last week in Cannes, De Niro was a big attraction at the film festival bringing with him his Oscar buzz movie, Hands Of Stone. Sticking with his promise to stay involved, De Niro took center stage and decided to announce his partnership with Weinstein to produce his own documentary regarding vaccine safety.
Here are some of the key points from his discussion with Vulture.com, and you can read the whole interview there.
There’s a lot going on that I still don’t understand, but it makes me question the whole thing (movie being censored), and the whole vaccine issue is a real one. It’s big money. So it did get attention. I was happy about that. And I talked about another movie called Trace Amounts that I saw and spoke about it a lot, that people should see it, and it’s there. Something is there with vaccines, because they’re not tested in some ways the way other medicines are, and they’re just taken for granted and mandated in some states. And people do get sick from it. Not everybody, but certain people are sensitive, like anything, penicillin. Yeah, and you always say, you’re not against vaccines, you’re against what they put in vaccines that can hurt certain people who are allergic. It can kill them sometimes. And there’s such an industry. There’s big, big money in vaccines …
What will the movie be? Nobody knows at this time, but De Niro was seen chumming around with Robert Kennendy Jr. and Leo Dicaprio. We hope this is a turning point for an open discussion about vaccine safety. Be safe Bobby and keep speaking out, you have an army of parents at your disposal.
